What is XFINITY WiFi?

XFINITY WiFi is a network of hotspots that allows you to connect at the fastest WiFi speeds around town while conserving usage on your cellular data plan.

How do I find a hotspot?

There are two easy ways to find a WiFi hotspot:

  1. Check the hotspot location map at wifi.comcast.com
  2. Download the XFINITY WiFi app.

Hotspots are being added frequently, so always remember to check for the “xfinitywifi” or “CableWiFi” signal in your list of available networks when you arrive at your destination.

I am an XFINITY customer, do I get free access?

XFINITY WiFi is available for no additional charge to XFINITY Internet and Comcast Business Internet customers who subscribe to one of the following:

  • Performance tier and above
  • Business Starter tier and above

If you are a new subscriber, you can begin using XFINITY WiFi right away, even before your XFINITY Internet service has been installed at home.

How do I access XFINITY WiFi?

  1. Enable your WiFi on your wireless device.
  2. Find and select the XFINITY WiFi network (network name: “xfinitywifi”) and launch your browser. The browser will redirect you to the XFINTY WiFi sign in page (if you don't see the sign in page, you may have to type a different address in your Web browser - such as www.xfinity.com - to be redirected to the XFINITY WiFi sign in page).
  3. Sign in using your Comcast Email or username and password, then start browsing the Web.

  • XFINITY WiFi Access Pass: Use XFINITY WiFi for an hour, a day or a week by purchasing an XFINITY WiFi Access Pass. XFINITY WiFi Access Passes are not available in all locations.

How do I connect if I am not a customer?

When you initially connect to “xfinitywifi”, a sign in page will appear. If a sign in page does not appear automatically, open your browser and navigate to a Web site such as www.xfinity.com. The sign in page will now appear.

  1. Click the Get Started link in the “Not an XFINITY Internet Customer?” section. (Please note that not all locations offer guest access.)
  2. Follow the on screen prompts.

Is XFINITY WiFi secure?

Comcast is committed to making your WiFi experience as fast, fun and safe as possible. Whenever you sign in, we help protect your privacy and the safety of your Comcast Email or username and password by providing 128-bit encryption on the sign in page. This is the same standard used by thousands of online banking and financial services sites around the world to protect your critical transactions.

However, for the most secure online experience possible, be safe and smart.

  • Use a firewall, and an anti-virus program such as Constant Guard™, the most comprehensive suite of online protection – included with XFINITY Internet for no extra cost ($360 value).
  • Turn off file sharing when using your computer or handheld on a network, at home, or on the road.
  • Keep your anti-virus programs up to date, and perform regular system scans to detect any problems early.

What is CableWiFi and how do I connect to XFINITY WiFi using it?

CableWiFi is an extension of the XFINITY WiFi service offered by Comcast, giving you access to even more hotspots on the go as you travel around the country.

When you are in a CableWiFi hotspot location (view coverage on wifi.comcast.com ) you can access XFINITY WiFi at no additional charge using the “CableWiFi” network name.

  • Select the “CableWiFi” network name from the list of available wireless network connections.
  • Open your browser and select “XFINITY” when prompted to select your Internet Service Provider.
  • If your device was previously registered for Automatic Sign In, you will automatically connect. Otherwise, please enter your Comcast Email or username and password and accept the Terms of Service.

If you are having problems connecting using CableWiFi please call 1-800-XFINITY (Comcast Business customers please call 1-800-391-3000).

Why am I still not able to connect to WiFi?

Check to make sure you are in an XFINITY WiFi hotspot. If “xfinitywifi” is not in the list of available networks, then you are probably not in an XFINITY WiFi hotspot.

If the “xfinitywifi” network name is in the available network list and you still can't connect, check your WiFi-enabled device to see how many signal bars are present. If there are only one or two bars, you may need to move closer to the center of the signal - moving closer to the center of the hotspot will increase the quality of the connection.

If you still cannot get online and your Comcast Email or username and password are correct, it is possible that we are having a service issue. Please contact our Customer Support Center at 1-800-XFINITY and select the High Speed Internet service option.

XFINITY WiFi app

Do I need the app to connect to XFINITY WiFi?

No, you do not need the app to connect to XFINITY WiFi. The app helps you find hotspots when you are on the go.

Where can I download the XFINITY WiFi app and which devices are supported?

You can download the iOS app from iTunes here or download the Android app from Google Play here.

For iOS (must be at least version 5.1), the following devices are supported:

  • iPhone: 3GS and above
  • iPad: Any version
  • iPod Touch: 3rd generation and above

For Android, any device running Android 2.2 or above.

I know XFINITY WiFi is available in my area, but when I search by state no results are found. Why?

Because there are so many XFINITY WiFi hotspots, searches are performed using a 10-mile radius from the center of the search term. Try including a city name or zip code for better results. You can also use the "Near Me" feature in the app to locate XFINITY WiFi hotspots near you.

The "Near Me" search button isn't working, or I see the message "Geo-location services are not available". How can I resolve this?

You can modify your device’s location permissions by following these steps:

In the general device settings:

  • iOS 5:
Go to Settings → Location Services → Set XFINITY WiFi to "On"
  • iOS 6 & 7:
Go to Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Set XFINITY WiFi to "On"
  • Android:
Go to Settings → Location Services → Check the boxes for "Google location services" and "GPS Satellites"

Please note, if you have enabled location services and are still experiencing this issue, your device may not currently be able to resolve your location (e.g. if you are on an iPod Touch with no GPS functionality, and WiFi is disabled, the device will not be able to determine your location).

How can I make sure I have the most up-to-date XFINITY WiFi hotspot location information?

The XFINITY WiFi app always looks for the most up-to-date hotspot location information available in the backend. When the data in the backend is updated and if you have offline datasets installed on your device that needs to be updated, a notification will provide an approximate file size for the download. You can then choose whether to install the update now, or later.

Remember, you can always check for available updates in the XFINITY WiFi app anytime:

Select Menu > "Settings" > "Check for Updates"

This creates an extension of the XFINITY WiFi network right in your home that any XFINITY Internet subscriber can use to sign in and connect. This XFINITY WiFi service is completely separate from your secure WiFi home network.

Will it cost anything?

Absolutely not. XFINITY WiFi is included with your existing Internet service.

The broadband connection to your home will be unaffected by the XFINITY WiFi feature. We have provisioned the XFINITY WiFi feature to support robust usage, and therefore, we anticipate minimal impact to the in-home WiFi network.

Will the homeowner be accountable for visitors’ activities and data usage on the wireless gateway?

No. The activities and usage of visiting users are tied back to the visitors’ accounts, not the homeowner’s. Homeowner’s activities and usage on the Home Hotspot are tied to the homeowner’s account.

Will my address be shown on the hotspot location map or XFINITY WiFi app?

We do not list subscribers’ addresses on the hotspot location map or in the XFINITY WiFi app. In the future we may use general indicators of XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot availability around a neighborhood, but only in a manner that assures the privacy of our customers.

Even when I’m home, my device always connects to the “xfinitywifi“ signal — how can I set my private home network as the default?

Some mobile devices and tablets will automatically connect to your private home network by default, while others will connect to the last successfully connected WiFi SSID.
